Not entirely sure where the year went, but I’ve been busy as a bee. That said, these last two years during the pandemic have made it very difficult to run this shop. As I’m sure many business owners are in this very spot too.
Between supply chain issues and shipping providers jacking up their rates, consumers including myself have been struggling to justify shipping charges. This topic is particularly sensitive to me as I’ve lost out on quite a few transactions on shipping cost alone. I cannot offer free shipping as I’m a small business and simply cannot operate in a deficit, and I don’t have many options where I operate in Northern Ontario in regards to shipping. They’re so close in price and I really don’t qualify for better rates because of the lack of sales…shipping. It’s a double edged sword.
I feel terrible and completely understand as a consumer too, but I suppose we all have priorities.
I did manage to participate in two markets for the first time in what… 2 years! That was a bonus and frankly, quite shocking to see the level of interest locally in my products. Whilst I’m not new to markets, the feedback and the sales were leaps and bounds better in comparison to previous years.
The general consensus has been the packaging and displays is what seems to have drawn folks in. Score! For the first time since 2017, I finally feel like we’re onto something. That’s nearly 5 years of trying to really make a solid product, brand it to attract my target niche and create a display that is cost effective for the times and yet still look presentable and worthy of your business.
If I’m being completely honest, I was on the fence of closing up shop seeing as the deadline for renewing my business registration is a few months away. I guess we can toss that idea away and bury it 6-feet under because we are here to stay! For the time being.
On that note, I guess now would be a good time to talk about what 2022 will be bringing. Saddle up folks, I am stoked!
2022 is going to be a test for sure, but it will be worth it. Aside from the general dump what is not selling and launch something else, I am really going to be shifting to creating collections instead of one offs.
Signature collections for my tried and tested and they’re 100% solid formulas for my bath bombs, bubble bath products, to skin and hair care. I’m not interested in duplicating and being like any other business. My lane is staying focused on what products you – my customers – want! I’m interested only in delivering an experience. I recognize I’m not the cheapest in town, but I do trying to get the best value for quality ingredients. I keep myself educated on the latest ingredients, techniques and test and then test again. Continuing education is vital.
Another super huge plan is developing some local partnerships and really hit the pavement with wholesale elsewhere. I would love nothing more than to see my products featured in another shop, so who knows what that attempt will bring. If you happen to be a local boutique or salon and would be interested in receiving a complimentary wholesale sample pack, please visit here and fill out the interest form.
For some in person shopping, I am hoping to score a few spots in some outdoor markets this year, and the usual indoor holiday events. Here’s to keeping our fingers crossed we’re lucky enough to secure them.
Before I wrap up today’s little message, just wanted to plug where you can find me online. I finally created a TikTok account and I’m still familiarizing myself with the platform. If that wasn’t crazy enough, we have a YouTube channel we’ll also be side launching. On the more simpler side of things, you will likely get the most up to date news by following my Instagram account.
Anyways, that about wraps it up. Thank you for your continued patience and if I can’t post before Christmas, I wish you all a very blessed holiday season.
